Nutmeg is a nine-month-old, yellow, altered, male Labrador Retriever mix that came to the Palmdale Animal Care Center as a stray, on Aug. 28. During his playgroup time, Nutmeg was deemed to have a push-and-pull play style, attributed to his being still a puppy. He was easy to leash in and out of the kennels and has been friendly to his handler. Nutmeg was easy to loop leash at the kennel and walked to the play yard with no pull on the leash. On the way, he passed another dog that was walking the other way on a leash. He became reactive toward the other dog and began barking at it. Nutmeg exchanged a tense greeting with a male Shepherd through the play yard fence. He began to whine anxiously and pace the play yard fence. He approached a female Pitbull and exchanged a soft greeting with her. He then approached a male Australian Shepherd and exchanged a soft greeting with him. After this, he began to roam the yard and explore his surroundings. He was tolerant of dogs trailing him to sniff him. A female Pitbull playfully bounded around the yard in front of him. She approached and offered a play bow. He accepted the invitation to play and they began to engage in push-pull play. When she playfully jumped on him, he remained tolerant and offered no correction. She then bounced around in front of him, in his face, and giving play growls. He again remained tolerant and offered no correction or warning for space. He did sometimes become mouthy during his push-pull play while chasing the other dogs. He is social with the other dogs. Nutmeg could benefit if sent to a dog behavior training class to help him hone his energy. He is recommended to a home with middle school-aged children and is deemed to get along with large dogs. To meet Nutmeg, visit the center during its daily public hours of 2 to 5 p.m. and extended public hours from 2 to 7 p.m., Wednesdays.
Hank is a four-year-old, black, altered, male American Gampr that was adopted and returned because of the other dog in the home. Hank is friendly, allowing handling and being examined. He was seeking attention, as well. During his play yard time, as he was sitting down at the gate when the runner approached, he had soft eyes, a relaxed body and neutral tail wag. The runner opened the gate and was able to easily leash him. He walked beside the runner with no pull. When he arrived to the pen, he confidently approached the fence and exchanged a good nose-to-nose greeting with a female Labrador and a Pitbull. The runner called him over and was able to easily place the collar and leash on him. When he entered the yard, he quickly approached the group at the gate and began to exchange good greetings. He had soft eyes, a relaxed body and a neutral ears. He approached both handlers in the yard, seeking affection. One of the handlers leaned over and began to pet his head. He sat down and began to lean in, seeking further affection. He had soft eyes, a relaxed body and neutral ears. He sat there for a few minutes, while tolerating a female Shepherd and a male Husky that approached and sniffed his body. After a few minutes he began to explore the yard. He began to pace the fence and look to the top as he was attempting to jump. A handler stood by the fence and he walked away. He remained social and tolerant for the duration of his yard time. He did not display a play style. Hank needs an active lifestyle. He is recommended to a home with middle school-aged children and would do well with large dogs. To meet Hank, visit the Palmdale Animal Care Center during its daily public hours of 2 to 5 p.m. and extended public hours from 2 to 7 p.m., Wednesdays.
